Mixed grain is milled from lumber that has been cut parallel to the trees growth rings, also known as flat
sawn. The face will have a mixture of loose flat and vertical graining, with lots of variation in pattern.
Standard mixed grain flooring will have some seasonal checking, nail holes and stains, and small,
medium and large knots. Premium mixed grain will have minimal checking, fewer nail holes and stains,
and infrequent small to medium knots. Widths start at 5” wide and go up from there. The wider the
board the more character will be present.Mixed grain is the most common lumber therefore is more
readily available and most economical for flooring and lumber.
